HAPPY HOLIDAY! (HIC!)
Hi everyone, had a brilliant week at my Brothers house in Somerset. Big, big thanks to my Brother and his wife for letting us stay with them and the best of all, they drove all the way up from Somerset to pick us up and drove us all the way back home again so it didn't cost us for transport.
The new owners of the one pub in the village have opened up the large balcony which overlooks the river Parret. Sitting in the sun looking out over the river, was lovely, peaceful and perfect, although after a few drinkies the spiral staircase leading down could be a bit of a challenge! (Sorry, no P.S. saying I fell down the stairs with this post, I did quite well)
The weather was absolutely fantastic, unfortunately I have come home with some kind of heat rash, very itchy, not used to sun up here in Manchester, it's always dull and rainy.
We spent every night out in the garden looking at the stars until the early hours, it was so quiet and dark, I have never seen so many stars! Where I live, the numerous streetlights cut out this spectacular view and the constant sirens and police helicopters don't exactly make you want to sit out in the garden, I was totally awestruck, they were amazing, I actually saw the Milky Way! We watched satellites going over, I pointed out one which seemed incredibly large and bright, my Brother told me that was probably the International Space Station!!! Wow!!! The shooting stars gave us a wonderful display too. I have never seen anything like it before in my life.
One of our days out, was a trip to Glastonbury and ............. I actually climbed up the Tor!!!
I only managed to go half way up though to where there was a concrete and wooden bench, thank goodness it was concreted in, a normal wooden bench wouldn't have been enough for me! I would have had to fling myself on the ground digging my finger and toe nails deep into the soil.
Anyway, there I stayed, clinging on with white knuckles while little 'un and big Bruv went right to the top! They told me it wasn't as steep further up but I couldn't release my vice like grip on the bench to go and find out! At one point, feeling rather brave that I had gone that high and survived, I actually left go with one hand to take a photo of the view, I didn't look at what I was photographing, I just balanced the camera on my knee, clicked and hoped it would turn out O.K, quite pleased with the result as you can see, I expected it to be blurred due to my shaking hands and knees. On the way back, they kept telling me to look at the lovely view, Yeah right, look how high you are and how far you could fall! My view all the way back down was of my feet and the steps, once at the bottom looking up, I was amazed how high I had actually gone (you lot, would see this as a nice little hill, to me it was Mount Everest!).
We then sat amongst the cow pats in the field at the bottom and had a picnic, all the time me repeating "I was up there?", "really?", "that high?". Still can't believe I managed it, I'm really proud of myself. Needless to say, we ended up back in the pub later (had to calm my nerves!).
We spent a day at 'Animal Farm' that was good for little 'un, there were slides, trampolines, rides etc. We fed all the animals even a llama.
What did I pick to feed?....The Jersey cow, I didn't realise they were THAT big until I got close! I ended up covered in slime from it's mouth and tongue, all the other animals weren't like that, they just nibbled the food off your hand, the Jersey cow? sucked my hand into it's mouth and wrapped it's tongue round my fingers, when I opened my hand to wipe it clean, it looked like I had webbed fingers, the slime just stretched between them, Yuk! Gave everyone a laugh though.
We went to Weston and spent the day on the beach, little 'un had her very first ride on a donkey and we had a paddle in the sea. Absolute bliss! Only thing missing was a knotted hankie on my head.
Must put this bit or little 'un won't forgive me, we spent a day in Bridgwater and had a couple of hours at 'Splash' the local pool, where....... she's learned to swim!!! Within one hour of being in there, her armbands were off and away she went (we don't get to a pool too often).
I was over the moon and later took her shopping and told her she could have whatever she wanted as a congratulations for doing so well. She picked a doll that cries, laughs, says 'mama' and 'papa', gurgles and even sneezes. It drives me mad!
Brought home a few local newspapers to look at houses in Somerset, I would move tomorrow but Neeza keeps going on about our roots being here, (born and bred and all that crap!) well I'm going to have a bloody good go at digging him up! I think it would be fantastic to live somewhere like that, our stress levels would decrease tremendously, apart from that week I just had, I can't remember a time when I have been calm and relaxed, life seems to be at a lot slower pace down South, up here everybody does everything so fast, always rushing about. We would only have to transfer the mortgage from this house to the next. My Brother has even said he would be our removal service. So come on, let's go!!!!!
After a blissful week we arrived home to a bombsite, it will take me at least another two weeks to get the house back to some kind of order, but it was worth it. May just sneak off for another week at Half Term Break.
UPDATE 15/08/07........ Tried talking, tried begging, Neeza won't budge!
Gonna forget the digging up the roots bit and try WEED KILLER!!!!!!!
You may see me on News at Ten!!!!

What a great time you had. Well done for even managing to make it half way up Glastonbury Tor... it is very very steep. I love going up there, sitting at the top and looking at the wonderful countryside - such an amazing view. I'm glad you enjoyed the scenerey and the slower pace of life. You were very lucky with the weather - such a beautiful week.
Best wishes ~ Graham
oh, and good luck with convincing hubby to relocate.
Welcome home, sounds like you had a lovely holiday!
Glad you had a swell time. Life is good.
One thing: "The River Parrot"? That sounds like a perfect place to hang out!
Have a nice day!
I'm so glad you had such a fantastic break! I'm rooting for you that 'Neeza gives up the roots soon and let's you move down to a more peaceful area. How fantastic that your little one learned to swim! I'm a total water baby, I think that's such a great thing to know how to do... it's like riding a bike and all that. Welcome back chica!
Re Update..there's always my patented weight loss programme!
Oh how fickle is that a week in Somerset and your off there for good, abandoning us all up here in the North for all that fresh unpolluted air and cheap cider!
Welcome back Azzi I've missed you!
Just leave him out on the street one night and Manchesters gun crime statistics will do the rest and it'll be someone else on News at ten!!
Oh yeah the crime figures for Somerset don't seem to be on the list - oh well there's only 200 councils on the list!!
LMAO!!! Sounds like this would make a great episode of "Tales of the unexpected"... I can hear the theme music now, and those cards are spinning.... LMAO!!!!!
Graham, you have got me dancing round the room now doing the wavy arm dance to 'Tales of the Unexpected' music. It will be in my head all night!! How come you're still up? I've reason to be up, I'm planning my defence plea after the weedkiller episode.
;)
