9 9 9 or 9 1 1 !
Guess how we spent Friday night from 9pm to 2am?
In Accident and Emergency department of Oldham Royal Hospital!!!!
Neeza (my drunken geezer) had to have stitches in his back.
Here's what happened........
He does the usual, goes to pub straight from work for a few pints of lager, his so-called 'relaxation time' before coming home for his evening meal. When home he then starts on the cans of strongbow. After a while, he starts to ramble a bit so I take Little'un up to bed and leave him watching TV. Next thing I know, there is one almighty CRASH! and the sound of pouring water. POURING WATER?
I knew immediately what had happened but screamed then shouted "What the f*** has happened?" (like you do in a situation like this, as I don't usually swear very much, just the odd bloody and bugger now and again). He shouted "I'm O.K, I'm O.K." but by the tone and the sound I had heard, I knew it was something real bad. Little'un started screaming, I mean REALLY SCREAMING!
I ran downstairs to find my 32 litre fish tank smashed to smithereens and Neeza stood white as a sheet with a blood soaked towel held to his back in amongst all the water and glass which was covering the carpet.
Seems he had tried to get up the stairs in the pitch black with food in both hands and had missed his footing falling backwards (he couldn't grab onto anything because of his hands being full) right onto the fishtank. Luckily he had only just started up the stairs so his angle of fall wasn't too vertical, any higher up the stairs and the glass shard that sliced through his back (both the skin and the muscle) would have gone right through and out the front!!!!
JEEZ! I know it is totally stupid to say how lucky he was when he has had such a bad accident but when I think of how it could have turned out, I feel quite sick.
I was bloody livid about all the cars parked on our little close again from those living on the main road! I am going to post letters through the doors of each of the culprits thanking them for stopping the ambulance getting through!
Neeza seems to be O.K. now to some degree, but he is still in pain as his muscle keeps going into spasm. I have confined him to bed and he is under threat of death if he moves or tries to get up! I am waiting on him hand and foot, in between vacuuming up the water and broken glass (thank goodness we have an 'Aquavac').
The fish?........I managed to retrieve three of the four from amongst the sodden carpet and bits of glass and got them into an old plastic tank I had kept for no particular reason, whilst the ambulance men were seeing to Neeza, but couldn't find 'Hitler' the smallest which is white with a little dash of gold above it's top lip (hence 'Hitler'). I had to therefore lock up leaving it to die somewhere on the floor while we all went in the ambulance to the Hospital.
9pm to 2am spent putting on a brave face for Little'un yet worrying about Neeza, the water all over the carpet and dripping into the live lead with four sockets (two without plugs in!) that my tank filters and aerators were plugged into. In the panic, I had forgotten to unplug them. I was picturing sparks, fire, no home!!! Plus my little white fish lay gasping somewhere on the carpet.
When we eventually arrived home, I moved the unit the tank stood on and found 'Hitler' lay near the wall, I picked it up to flush it and the little bugger started flapping about in my hands, I ran with it to the plastic tank and swished it about in the water a couple of times and off it went, a little slowly at first but nevertheless it was swimming. YAY!!!!
FIVE HOURS out of water and it survived! Wondering whether to change it's name to 'Super Hitler'.
Anyway, apart from some pain every now and then, Neeza is going to be fine, thank goodness, and I have threatened him (in front of the Doctors and Nurses) with a return to Hospital if he carries on drinking as much as he does.
Not slept at all since Thursday night, hoping now things are getting a little back to normality that I will be able to sleep tonight but on the sofa, letting Neeza have the double bed all to himself as I would be terrified of hurting him when I got in or out of bed or if I turned over too suddenly. EEK!
Anyway, I can feel I am going to zonk out any minute so will finish here. Hope you all have a better weekend than we are having and hoping my next post will be on a lighter note.
Goodnight all.

My goodness, I am so sorry to hear about the accident. However, I am also glad that, although the injuries sound horrific, that they weren't any worse. I wish neeza a speedy and careful recovery - I'm sure that you will make sure he does exactly what the doctors tell him to do. Please take care and make sure you get some sleep too (even if it is on the sofa). I send the three of you my warmest regards and best wishes - I will keep you all in my thoughts.
Please please please keep us all updated with his progress.
Loadsaluv, your friend Graham x
Oh my goodness... what a terrifying experience for your family (and your fish, no doubt). It could have been much worse with all that flying glass around. Hope things are getting back to normal..
Graham, Thanks for the kind words, never mind what the Doctors tell him to do, he ignores them, he actually thought he was going in work the very next morning until I told him what I thought of that idea and also what I would do to him if he even tried going to work before I say he can!
Thanks and Loadsaluv right back at ya! X
Paper Fan Club,
Thank you too for your kind words.
Yes, it could have been worse. Guess that 'Guy in the Sky' that Neeza believes in was on his side, and the fish too. Thought the shock would have killed the fish but they are little fighters.
Little'un has learned a good lesson though, I said "Now you see why I tell you not to run up or down the stairs even grown ups can fall sometimes"
New fishtank when bought, will be put where I originally had it, over by the window in the corner of the room. It was Neeza's idea to have it at the bottom of the stairs and once there, it was impossible to move!
Thanks again.
:)
How awful for you. I hope little un has recovered from her fright and that you too have settled down after such a nasty scare. As for Neeza, I'm glad his injuries weren't any worse - the possibilties don't bear thinking about - and I hope he has the sense to do what he's told until he heals properly. Try to get some rest Azzi, we don't want an exhausted you having an accident now do we? Take Care.
Thanks Pauline,
Looks like I don't need to use any ideas from your 55's, he is going to do it all by hiself!
He's not too bad now, actually managed to get up and come downstairs (very slowly) to ask me to help him change his t shirt as it was quite a bit bloody from his wound weeping a bit. He'll be fine in a few more days and back to getting on my nerves.
:)
To All,
Thanks for all your kind wishes.
Even though I used my 'Aquavac' to get the water up, it's still very damp, going to use one of those carpet cleaners with the strong shampoo as the house absolutely STINKS! Trust it to happen at weekend, spend all Saturday on my soggy knees going over and over each square foot with the vac and again Sunday but the carpet still smells real bad, of course it's Sunday, no where open to get a proper cleaner and shampoo (not close enough for someone without a car anyway!), Neeza told me to ring his work and ask them to deliver one for us, it's coming tomorrow can't wait to get shampooing, I'm going through air freshener at a rate of knots, and was advised not to use 'Shake 'n' Vac' on a wet carpet as it would be like wet talc and turn to a paste. Everyone has calmed down and are fine now, even the fish. Once again, thanks for your kind thoughts.
Hugs X
Actually, rolling over in bed and "accidentally" slapping him on the back might be a good reminder...
Glad everyone survived the chaos...why do these things always happen at night?????
What a time! Sorry about Neeza and Hitler and I hope Neeza's recovery is quick and easy.
You leave nothing to the imagination with your writing - wonderful post!
But I have to agree that the next one should hopefully be of lighter note!!
By the way thank you for the comments on mine while I was away! Here is your free web album. Enjoy
Damn what a night! Your husband is very lucky it wasn't much worse and and and I'm so happy to read all the fish are ok.
Take care of yourself.

Cooper, Neeza has only had the odd pint of Guinness (as he says, it's good for you!) Better that than the lager and cider he used to have. Think the shock of what happened brought him to his senses regarding his drinking, then again, it's only early days.
:)
Ebezp,
Thanks for your comments, Neeza and the fish are all doing fine.
Thanks too for the lovely pictures, brings back wonderful memories. Goofy is my all time favorite!
:)
Top Cat,
Thanks a mil mate, everyone is now fine, we are hoping to claim on the insurance for the stinky carpet though (may even get a new fish tank too, as at the moment the fish are in a diddy little plastic tank I originally got them in and they are bumping into each other and the sides because they are so big now), I've used an industrial shampooing machine from Neeza's work twice and it still stinks and has a big brown tide mark across it, so up it comes!
:)
Bajeebers.
Glad everybody's OK.
From now on let the fish guard the beer - they won't let him near it anymore.
I hope all is well with you and your family..take care azz.:)

This puts a whole new slant on the expression "getting tanked".
Glad to hear you are all getting over it.
I've just seen the pic of Neeza's back - he has been lucky hasn't he?
Hope you are all well over the nasty fright and that Neeza is healing well.
Pauline,
ICKY ISN'T IT?
Actually, now we are over the shock of it all, I keep telling him it serves him right for drinking too much! Nag, nag, nag!
:)
Cathy,
My Sister made the same comment about being 'tanked up' in her get well card, she also said if the tank had been filled with lager or cider instead of water he would have turned in mid air and landed head first (mouth open) by instinct!
:)
That's a nasty gash. Ouch. I feel odd saying this, but "I'm glad Hitler survived." Yep...that comment is going to come back to haunt me at some point in my career.
:?)
Hi Azzi, it's taken some time but I've just posted that tag that you lumbered me with!!!
Thanks for the comments at mine while I was away they meant a lot and thanks for looking after Tipsy for me.
Hope everything with you and yours is recovering steadily!
Dont be too hard on him. Likes all us blokes he had his priorites right.
He saved the food in his hands at the expense of everything else.
