BUDDY THE BUDGIE - R.I.P.
Sad news folks, our budgie 'Buddy' died about two hours ago and we held a little service over her grave in our front garden, marked it with a little cross and said our 'goodbyes'.
I don't know how but I knew it was going to happen, I had only just told Little'un this morning that I think Buddy would go sometime this weekend and to prepare for it. There was just something about her, she looked very tired, I just knew it was going to be soon but didn't expect it to be within about three hours of my saying so. Hey, wait a minute! I'm looking quite tired myself! Oh, oh!
Little'un cried quite a bit more than I expected, as she mostly ignored the bird when it was alive, as did Neeza who also seemed more upset than I expected. Mind you, as I put in a previous post, Buddy was an ignorant little bugger and would turn her back on you if you tried to talk to her, all those years of talking to the back of her head but I still loved the ignorant little git!
We had had Buddy for almost eight years, she, yes she, even though her name was Buddy, had been given to me by a friend of my Mum, as she (the budgie, not Mum's friend), kept attacking and eventually killed it's cage partner, which, it seems, Mum's friend had preferred. So, as with most of our pets, she came to ME!
All I can say is, she had a very good life, well fed, well looked after, had lots of toys to play with and her cage, which was very, very big for a little budgie so she had plenty of room to fly about, was in between Paddy the cockatiel and Squeaky the Guinea pig, so she had company too.
Think Paddy is missing her, he seems to know something bad has happened and has been very quiet since she went, he usually talks and squawks a lot more, so I keep going and talking to him. How do you explain what has happened, to a cockatiel?
Little'un finished crying after about fifteen minutes and said "What can we get now to go in the cage?" (Typical eight year old! She is actually after a rabbit next and Neeza wants a cat). She started again once I told her I am going to clean it thoroughly and maybe give it to the local pet shop.
Anyway, my little feathered friend, rest in peace. Bye, bye, Bud. XX

Sorry for your loss Azzi.
Could it be that you felt less for the budgie than you thought rather than Little Un and Neeza thought more? Just an observation!
Pop in at mine sometime over the weekend if you can we are having fun!!
At least you gave her a good home for many years. It's good really that young children can get over loss quite quickly sometimes.
We lost a parakeet earlier in the month and it was our daughter's bird. because she is 3 daddy got her another one. Good luck and great blog.
It's a sad sad day when a loved one passes away - albeit a pet. Pets have personalities and feelings and build a bond with their carers. I am sure Buddy would have been good hands with Neeza, Little'un and you.
I hope Little'un get's over her loss soon. It is a sad time, but the experience is useful for little'un - teaching her about death... a true part of growing up.
I wish you all a much happier Sunday and Ghoulish Halloween. Oh! And enjoy the lay in tomorrow (The clocks go back... Yippee!!!)
Isn't it odd how kids react to the loss of a pet? We lost a hamster about a year ago and neither one of the kids cried.
We lost our Beta fish and my 4 year old was soooo upset and I ended up holding him for a good 2 hours.
Sorry about your loss.
Awww. Sorry to hear about the little guy. Budgies are so KYOOT.
I know how you feel - you get pretty attached to pets. I'm really attached to my pet human.
Keep you chin up, though - to paraphrase Obi-Wan Kenobi: "The bird will be with you - always."
Azzi, I have left a little something for you on my latest post.
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!!!!!!!!
Your mate, Graham x
First off, sorry for your loss.
However, this is why you get fish.
Although they don't live very long, you can always fake the kids out by buying an EXACT replica for under $5 when the fish dies. I had good practice with this routine when we gave my 3-year old her first fish...which she subsequently killed 7 times.
As an added tip...GET A COVER for the tank.
You're welcome.
Losing a family member is never easy...no matter how much of a pain in the arse they were. My condolences....so....when does the new hedgehog arrive?????
By the by, stop by my site, I have something for you.
