UGLY BUG BALL!

I've started this post to take a break from sewing (and swearing!), I've been sewing for the past seven hours (with the odd tea and pee break). I am making my little girl a butterfly outfit for her 'Ugly Bug Ball' at school. Not satisfied with hiring an outfit or making do with her fairy wings ("But Mum, those are fairy wings not butterfly wings, anyone can see that!"). She wants the 'full monty', a 'Mum's original', (think she is expecting a brazillian carnival outfit!).
So there I was, sat on the lounge floor for seven hours, cutting and sewing an old, but colourful duvet cover to numerous metal coat hangers bent into the shape of butterfly wings (all by hand, as Hubby can't remember where he put the toolbox so I could use pliers!) when I went and knocked my cup of tea all over the bloody thing! I was only half way finished!!!!
I couldn't stick it in the washer as it wouldn't fit due to all the hangers, so had to hand wash it, and thanks to all the rain we are having, it is now hanging up over the bath.
Guess what I'll be doing tomorrow?!!!

Wooo Hoooo! finished it! Even had time to make ping pong ball antennae and two big insecty (is that a word?) eyes made out of flour sieves with the handles cut off! Not quite Brazillian carnival material but not too bad, if I say so myself! Now comes the big moment! Got to go get her from school in half an hour, then see what she thinks.
Hopefully, being only seven, she will think it is wonderful and prance around flapping her butterfly wings, on the other hand she could just laugh at my pathetic attempt and refuse to wear it. If she does the latter then I will wear it myself when I take her to school tomorrow, I'm not working for two whole days on a project without it being seen, even if I do look ridiculous and embarrass her!!!

Yipeeee! She loves it! She has been prancing and flapping all afternoon!

LOL!!! This brings back memories. I can remember the local fancy dress party during the Queen's Silver Jubilee. I wore a pair of my grandad's oversized trousers with a hoop around the waist, and braces to hold them up. No shirt, just a tie around my neck, a red nose and a flat cap. I'm sure there is a photo somewhere, I'll have to dig it out sometime. Anywayz, well done with your handywork!!!!!!

At least it was all worthwhile in the end!

You are such a wonderful mom! I am sure she was the most beautiful butterfly that anyone can ever imagine...

I agree 100% with what "love for child" wrote because I was going to write it myself until I noticed that it had already been written.

Wow ! That was quite a project! You're a very creative mom. I like the happy ending part. You make us, moms very proud. I too love to sew. I used to sew my own nursing scrubs before the twins were borned. I don't know when I'll go back to work again. I won't be needed to wear scrub for awhile.

Ratcha, Thank you for your nice words, you will do exactly the same for your two little ones when they need something like this, only in your case twice!

What a wonderfuly loving Mum you are. And isn't it wonderful when they love what you do. Last year I stayed up till gone midnight making a Mummy Halloween costume for my son for him to tell me the next morning that he wouldn't even try it on and hated it! Grrr. A few alterations later and he was fine though. I'm glad that your daughter loved it... and I know when I'm needing to make a costume where I'm coming to for ideas.
