9 9 9 or 9 1 1 !
Guess how we spent Friday night from 9pm to 2am?
In Accident and Emergency department of Oldham Royal Hospital!!!!
Neeza (my drunken geezer) had to have stitches in his back.
Here's what happened........
He does the usual, goes to pub straight from work for a few pints of lager, his so-called 'relaxation time' before coming home for his evening meal. When home he then starts on the cans of strongbow. After a while, he starts to ramble a bit so I take Little'un up to bed and leave him watching TV. Next thing I know, there is one almighty CRASH! and the sound of pouring water. POURING WATER?
I knew immediately what had happened but screamed then shouted "What the f*** has happened?" (like you do in a situation like this, as I don't usually swear very much, just the odd bloody and bugger now and again). He shouted "I'm O.K, I'm O.K." but by the tone and the sound I had heard, I knew it was something real bad. Little'un started screaming, I mean REALLY SCREAMING!
I ran downstairs to find my 32 litre fish tank smashed to smithereens and Neeza stood white as a sheet with a blood soaked towel held to his back in amongst all the water and glass which was covering the carpet.
Seems he had tried to get up the stairs in the pitch black with food in both hands and had missed his footing falling backwards (he couldn't grab onto anything because of his hands being full) right onto the fishtank. Luckily he had only just started up the stairs so his angle of fall wasn't too vertical, any higher up the stairs and the glass shard that sliced through his back (both the skin and the muscle) would have gone right through and out the front!!!!
JEEZ! I know it is totally stupid to say how lucky he was when he has had such a bad accident but when I think of how it could have turned out, I feel quite sick.
I was bloody livid about all the cars parked on our little close again from those living on the main road! I am going to post letters through the doors of each of the culprits thanking them for stopping the ambulance getting through!
Neeza seems to be O.K. now to some degree, but he is still in pain as his muscle keeps going into spasm. I have confined him to bed and he is under threat of death if he moves or tries to get up! I am waiting on him hand and foot, in between vacuuming up the water and broken glass (thank goodness we have an 'Aquavac').
The fish?........I managed to retrieve three of the four from amongst the sodden carpet and bits of glass and got them into an old plastic tank I had kept for no particular reason, whilst the ambulance men were seeing to Neeza, but couldn't find 'Hitler' the smallest which is white with a little dash of gold above it's top lip (hence 'Hitler'). I had to therefore lock up leaving it to die somewhere on the floor while we all went in the ambulance to the Hospital.
9pm to 2am spent putting on a brave face for Little'un yet worrying about Neeza, the water all over the carpet and dripping into the live lead with four sockets (two without plugs in!) that my tank filters and aerators were plugged into. In the panic, I had forgotten to unplug them. I was picturing sparks, fire, no home!!! Plus my little white fish lay gasping somewhere on the carpet.
When we eventually arrived home, I moved the unit the tank stood on and found 'Hitler' lay near the wall, I picked it up to flush it and the little bugger started flapping about in my hands, I ran with it to the plastic tank and swished it about in the water a couple of times and off it went, a little slowly at first but nevertheless it was swimming. YAY!!!!
FIVE HOURS out of water and it survived! Wondering whether to change it's name to 'Super Hitler'.
Anyway, apart from some pain every now and then, Neeza is going to be fine, thank goodness, and I have threatened him (in front of the Doctors and Nurses) with a return to Hospital if he carries on drinking as much as he does.
Not slept at all since Thursday night, hoping now things are getting a little back to normality that I will be able to sleep tonight but on the sofa, letting Neeza have the double bed all to himself as I would be terrified of hurting him when I got in or out of bed or if I turned over too suddenly. EEK!
Anyway, I can feel I am going to zonk out any minute so will finish here. Hope you all have a better weekend than we are having and hoping my next post will be on a lighter note.
Goodnight all.
