Well, the rain stayed away JUST long enough for our Annual Carnival parade to take place yesterday (Yey!). But no chance for the fair later on the fields! The heavens opened again!
Luckily we are not too badly hit by the floods, as being on the outskirts of Manchester and more towards the Oldham side, we seem to be a little higher up towards the Pennines.
This morning I couldn't believe my eyes when I opened the curtains and the SUN beamed through. My little girl jumped on us (7am) shouting with glee that I had said, if it doesn't rain, I would take her to the fair today. Damn! how come it does this when you are expecting a nice lie-in on a Sunday morning!
Ooh! she tried all the normal ways of making me get out of bed, "Muuum, I'm staaarving!", "Muuum, I'm really, really thirsty, I NEED a cup of tea!", "But Muuum, you promised!", "Pleeeeeeeeze".
Not at 7am I didn't!
(Yes, I know, she asked for TEA! It is all she drinks, she hates fizzy drinks, milkshakes, isn't bothered about ice-cream or all the normal kiddy things, although she does like chocolate.
The looks we get when we go to McDonalds, I have the thick milkshake and end up doing the sucky-in face trying to get it up the straw while she sits having a nice cup of tea!)
I managed to fob her off until 9 o'clock when I finally gave in, crawled out of bed, dragged myself downstairs and ended up making us all a full English breakfast. Hubby stayed in bed until I called that it was ready. After breakfast he went for his usual Sunday 'three hour' trip for a paper (see previous post headed Husbands, sigh!), and I took little'un to the fair, wellies, brollies and sunglasses! Not as bad as I expected, the mud was only ankle deep. I actually enjoyed myself and went on most of the rides with her, we won two giant blow up balls on the 'Hook-a-Duck' stall, ate candyfloss and rainbow coloured lollies and ended up quite dizzy and feeling a little sick after all the rides (well I did!).
The rain stayed off right up until we were five minute walk away from our front door. Phew!
All in all, a good day was had by everyone. (I'll get my lie-in tomorrow! Yeah right!).
P.S.
Wasn't going to tell you this bit, but what the hell, I can see the funny side now, as I would have been in stitches if I would have seen it myself.
I've got the biggest SQUARE bruise on my arm this morning because......... I fell getting off one of the rides! (told you I got dizzy).
Just before I landed on my a**e in the mud I managed to grab a metal bar on the ride but ended up like a speeded-up pole dancer spinning round and round and sliding further down towards the mud, of course, little'un found this hilarious as did a few onlookers, luckily I managed to stop myself (the bruise!) before the crowd of onlookers became any bigger. Just hoping no-one had a video camera with them! Could end up on 'You've been Framed' (English TV programme that shows funny and embarrassing videos, if your video is shown, you win £250 that's somewhere between $475 - $500 depending on the exchange rate).
